Murphy High School, integrated in the fall of 1961 at the same time as 3 other Atlanta high schools (Brown, Northside, and Grady), was named after J.C. Murphy, who was Sherwood Harrington's maternal grandfather. Thanks to Sherwood for letting me post this 1963 photo. In 1988, the school was renamed Alonzo A. Crim Open Campus High School, after Alonzo Crim who served from 1973 - 1988 as the city's first black superintendent of schools. BACK TO THUMBNAIL PAGE
