Here's a great ad for a little-remembered nightspot, Phil Niekro's Knuckler Lounge. Even better than the fact that Niekro had his own nightclub is the fact that it was billed as "the home of the new dance, The Knuckler." I would pay some pretty serious cash to see archival footage of giddy patrons dancing The Knuckler. Of course, the best way to establish any specific dance craze was by means of a promotional 45 rpm record with lyrics instructing people exactly how said dance is to be done. For example, check out the song Yobyalp, recorded to promote a dance by that name at Atlanta's Playboy Club. (Yobyalp is playboy spelled backwards). All of which leads me to wonder.....did anybody ever record a Knuckler 45 for Niekro to hawk at the club? Perhaps not, but if so obtaining a copy would definitely move to the top of my lifetime goals.
