Ad for Atlanta's Whisk 'a Go-Go. This was a branch of the more famous Whiskey A Go Go club on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. After debuting at 114 Ponce de Leon Ave, the club relocated to a space within the Imperial Hotel for a while. Click here to see an ad for when it was located within the Imperial. In 1965, Ronnie Milsap was only 22 years old and was still quite a long way from the stardom he later reached ( he went on to chart an astonishing 40 #1 hits on the country charts). Unfortunately, all the Ronnie Milsap songs I've ever heard were dismal, over-produced atrocities. But, hey, scoring forty #1 hits is quite an accomplishment, and if snobby whiners like me don't dig his music Ronnie can probably deal with that. Date: 10/11/65
114 Ponce de Leon Ave. as it appears today. Another add (on the next page) shows the address for this club as 114 Ponce de Leon Ave. so you can your pick as far as whether the official address of the Whisk' A Go Go was located at 114 or 124 Ponce de Leon Ave. NE. |
