This undated postcard shows the
view looking north along Whitehall Street toward Five Points
and Peachtree Street. As you probably already know,
Peachtree used to begin at Five Points and proceed northward;
in the 1980s, several blocks of Whitehall Street south of Five
Points were renamed Peachtree Street in an effort to
revitalize what had become a far less glamorous and prosperous
part of town. While the postcard's precise date is a
mystery, it was definitely 1901 or later as that's when the
viaduct spanning the railroad tracks was
completed. The lower photo shows what this view
looked like in 2004. Beneath the 2004 picture is a photo
taken at the railroad track level, looking west toward the
Whitehall viaduct, seen in the postcard.
