Seen here is an aerial postcard focusing on John Portman's stunning Hyatt Regency hotel. When it opened in 1967, it was the first major hotel built in downtown Atlanta since the 1920's. The 23-story open air atrium inside the hotel was truly revolutionary when it debuted. The sender of this postcard wrote that the hotel was "beyond description." Scroll down to read the back of the postcard. The brick building to the right of the Hyatt, sitting on the property now occupied by the Marriott Marquis Hotel, is Saint Joseph's Hospital.
