Reprinted here is an excellent 1984 article on the Frances Hotel, originally published in Atlanta Weekly, the Atlanta Journal Constitution's Sunday magazine.   Author Patricia Ward Biederman's portrait of the hotel and its inhabitants tells the sad story of the Frances' decline.  Originally named the Farlinger Building in 1898 when it was constructed as Atlanta's first apartment house, the building was eventually torn down in 1988.  The SunTrust Plaza, a 60 story office building, now occupies that block.  The photos accompanying the article were shot by Floyd Jillson.
