The Waffle House is well-known for its jukeboxes, which all feature a handful of songs about the Waffle House and its fine food. The WH website used to sell cd compilations of these songs, but on a recent visit I couldn't find the disc mentioned anywhere. They never sold the records but as I learned, if you dig through enough boxes of dusty old 45's you may just get lucky and snag one. Mary Welch Rogers is the wife of WH co-founder Joe Rogers. Also of interest is the fact that the producer of this 45 is Jerry Buckner, of the duo Buckner and Garcia. Surely you recall their obnoxiously catchy Pac Man Fever, a novelty song that hit the charts in the fall of 1981. You can get the whole story from the Buckner and Garcia website. Both Jerry Buckner and Gary Garcia have had a hand in writing and recording many of the Waffle House songs. |
