Seen here is the Mark Inn, located at the intersection of Sylvan Road and Interstate 85 in Hapeville, just north of the airport. The building's still there, and somewhat surprisingly, it's still a Mark Inn, though the ultra-swanky lettering and the swimming pool are both history. This vintage postcard appears here thanks to a Flickr user who goes by the name What Makes The Pie Shops Tick. I highly recommend his outstanding collection of spectacular images from the past. Below is a contemporary photo, a bird's eye view aerial shot that I harvested from the maps program found at bing.com. Maybe one of these days I'll head down there to try to recreate the postcard photo, but until then I think it'll suffice. Here's another Mark Inn postcard, one showing the motel at the northwest corner of Moreland Avenue and I-20.
From the back of the card: "On Interstate 85 South at Sylvan Road exit. One of eight Mark Inn motels in Atlanta, Georgia. Superb food; intimate cocktail lounge. Only 2 minutes too Atlanta Airport with free limo service. Near sports stadium and downtown. All credit cards honored, including American Oil and Phillips 66. Mark Inns also located in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Orlando, Florida. A Best Western Motel."
