Sign for WGST radio, 1948

In 1948, this WGST radio sign stood just across the street from the Varsity, towering over the NE corner of North Avenue and Spring Street. At the time, the radio station was operated by Georgia Tech. In fact, the GST stood for Georgia School of Technology. The school has since been renamed the Georgia Institute of Technology.
