Hank & Jerry's Hidaway, 1002 Peachtree Street NW, was one club offering the opportunity to hop on the twist bandwagon in the early days of 1962.

If, for some reason, you're not familiar with the song The Twist, it first came to life when Hank Ballard & The Midnighters recorded it in 1959 for the King record label of Cincinnati, Ohio.

At the suggestion of television dance show host Dick Clark, Philadelphian Chubby Checker cut an almost identical version for the Parkway label.  Checker's version, backed by Clark's promotional muscle, left the Ballard original in the dust as it sprinted to the #1 spot on the Billboard charts.
