The Catacombs was, for a short while, one of the main gathering places for Atlanta hippies. (Oh, and speaking of the hippies in the Atlanta area, I should probably direct your attention to this and this). The overtly psychedelic establishment was located at the intersection of Peachtree and 14th Streets at the north end of "The Strip," the 7 or 8 block stretch of Peachtree that served as a powerful magnet to the young counter-culture aficionados and curious rubberneckers alike. The November 30, 1967 issue of The Signal, the student-run newspaper at Georgia State College (it didn't become Georgia State University until 1969) profiled The Catacombs, which was essentially a coffee shop that hosted live music events during its unusual hours of operation (11PM - 6AM). Owner David Braden, better known to many as Mother David, ran the establishment.
