NEXT PAGE IN THE BLASSIE SERIES

In the 1970's, Blassie made a few great records like the insanely brilliant novelty song named after his famous catchphrase Pencil Neck Geek.  The record, written and produced by film historian and rockabilly wildman Johnny Legend, was released by Rhino Records in 1977 and became something of an underground classic.  The over the top lyrics included couplets like this one:

Pencil neck geek, grit eatin' freak,
Scum suckin' pea-head with a lousy physique!

Here are the complete lyrics if you're hungry for more.

In 1983, he teamed up with Andy Kaufman to star in My Breakfast With Blassie, a parody of the art house hit  My Dinner With Andre.  In the film, Fred Blassie and Andy Kaufman have a long conversation over a leisurely breakfast in a Sambo's Restaurant on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.  My Breakfast With Blassie was directed by Johnny Legend, the man who wrote Pencil Neck Geek for Freddie a few years earlier.

I was able to dig up two different addresses for Freddie Blassie during his years in Atlanta.  Follow along if you'd care to see where he lived.
