Piano Red's real name was William Lee Perryman, and he was born in Hampton, Georgia in either 1911 or 1913, depending upon the source.  His family moved to Atlanta in 1919 and Willie Lee, as he was known, soon acquired the nickname Piano Red as the result of his albino condition.  His first recordings were made in Atlanta in 1936.   In 1961, he hooked up with the Okeh record label to record the song Dr. Feelgood, which came to be the source of his second nickname.   The song caught on and soon Red and his band were being booked for shows as Dr. Feelgood & The Interns. 

Perryman, booked as Piano Red, played regularly at Muhlenbrink's Saloon in Underground Atlanta from 1969 until 1979.
