Cotton Watts and Chick Moreland carried the comedy
portion of the show at the Circus Lounge during the week of
June 17, 1957. Watts (1901 - 1968) was born in Acworth
and had a long career as a minstrel man. In fact, he
was, surprisingly and sadly, still playing nightclubs in
blackface right up until the time of his death in
1968. Chick Moreland (real name: Louise Watts) was
Cotton's wife. And according to his obituary, Cotton's
brother Harvey was the manager of the Henry
Grady Hotel.
June 17, 1967: appearing at the Gypsy Room (26
Pine Street, Atlanta) this week, in addition to Cotton Watts
and Chick Moreland, were Joe Sterling, Rita
Grable and Nola Pardi,
with live music provided by Marvin Robert's Orchestra.
