This view looks across Forsyth and Peachtree Streets to the remains of the Loew's Grand Theatre. Photo courtesy of John Holcombe.
Before its demise, the theatre was one of Atlanta's most fashionable movie palaces and was the focus on widespread national media attention on December 15, 1939 when it was the site of the world premiere of Gone With The Wind, which went on to win 10 Academy Awards. Scroll down for more photos.

Above: the Loew's Grand Theatre as seen during one of Gone With The Wind's periodic re-releases. The GSU archives have this picture labeled as being from 1939, the year of GWTW's original release, but that car out front looks to me like about a 1950/51 era Ford so my guess is that is picture was taken during the film's 1953 rerelease. Just a guess, though.
